Havel, Miroslav: Handwritten signed letter beginning Vazeny pane ministersky rado (= Dear Mr Ministerial Councillor, to Bohumil Penizka), dated Praha, 10 June 1931.
One sheet with text on both sides. 10 grams. Size 29.5 x 21 cm. Good to very good: the letter has two small traces after horizontal folding. Front side is slightly soiled at the bottom. There is minor crease in top right corner. Bohumil Penizka probably asked Miroslav Havel to examine the quality of the four problems, which he was apparently planning to publish somewhere in connection with the forthcoming Chess Olympiad in Prague 1931. The problems were composed by certain ing. Kreibich. Miroslav Havel writes that the problems are technically correct, but does not recommend them for publication, what he explains. The translation means: In my opinion, the standard of these works is not such as to constitute a desirable example for such a significant dedication. The author himself is almost unknown in chess problem circles, having published 5 problems in chess columns of minor importance. It is feared that by possibly recommending his problems the UJCS would unnecessarily put itself in danger of reproach from our masters. (Miroslav Havel, 1881-1958, Author of some 1,900 problems. The most significant representative of the Bohemian Chess Problem School. Bohumil Penizka, 1873-1939, chairman of the Czechoslovak Chess Union (UJCS) 1909-1913 and 1925-1939, honorary member of FIDE 1931, chess organizer of Prague chess olympiad 1931. 3x real photo).
