The book contains 90 examples of Mattison's work. It is divided into three parts: 1. White wins endgame studies, 2. White draws endgame studies , 3. Mattison's best endgames from practical games. All with detailed analyses and comments. Herman Mattison (Hermanis Mattisons), 1894-1932, was one of the world's best study composers and in 1920s and early 1930s also one of leading chess players. He was Latvian champion, won the 1924 World Amateur Championship in Paris. At the 1931 Prague Olympiad, he won against Alekhine and Rubinstein. He passed away prematurely at the age of 38 of tuberculosis.
